How it works

Your primary color is converted to HSL and rotated mathematically: complementary = hue +180°, analogous = hue +30°, tints and shades shift lightness, and the neutral is the same hue at 6% saturation. Text-on-primary picks dark or white by the color's lightness, the same rule of thumb behind WCAG contrast checks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a replacement for a real brand book?

No — it is the first page of one. A professional brand book adds logo construction, photography style, iconography and tone-of-voice examples. This generator gives you the palette math and ground rules in seconds, which is what most small projects actually need.

Why are the palette colors computed, not random?

Harmony is geometry: complementary and analogous hues sit at fixed angles on the color wheel, and tints/shades are the same hue at different lightness. Computed palettes are coherent by construction — that is why design systems generate their scales this way.

Will the text color on my primary pass accessibility checks?

The tool picks dark text on light colors and white on dark colors using lightness — the right call in most cases. For legal WCAG compliance, verify the final pair with a contrast checker: 4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text.

Can I use the output commercially?

Yes — colors and font suggestions are not ownable. The generated sheet is yours to use in client work, pitch decks and style tiles without attribution.
