On Windows, hold Alt and type the numeric code on the keypad to produce these characters (the extended range above 127 depends on your system code page):
| Alt code | Character | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Alt+0149 | • | Bullet point |
| Alt+0153 | ™ | Trademark |
| Alt+0169 | © | Copyright |
| Alt+0174 | ® | Registered |
| Alt+0176 | ° | Degree sign |
| Alt+0177 | ± | Plus-minus |
| Alt+0215 | × | Multiplication sign |
| Alt+0247 | ÷ | Division sign |
| Alt+0128 | € | Euro sign |
| Alt+0233 | é | e with acute |
| Alt+0241 | ñ | n with tilde |
| Alt+0252 | ü | u with umlaut |
Note on the extended range (128–255): unlike the 0–127 ASCII standard, characters 128–255 are not universal, they vary by code page (Windows-1252, Latin-1, etc.). The table above lists the Windows-1252 values used by Alt codes.
A 7-bit character encoding standard mapping integers to letters, digits and symbols, the foundation of modern text encoding.
Codes 0–31 are non-printable control characters (line feed, tab, etc.), so the table starts at the first printable code, 32 (space).
Unicode's first 128 code points are identical to ASCII, so all ASCII values remain valid today.
